Four words: history, wine, carbs & gelato
On board a gondola ride in Venice is where I discovered Bellini – a much fancier mimosa that combines sparkling bubbly and peach puree. There is plenty of Venetian seafood risotto to eat and wine to drink on this sinking town. And the Venice Carnival is a big deal around here as masquerade masks and lace are hot items in the boutiques. Although I did not love the crowds which reminded me of a saturday at Disneyland, I would love to go back during the winter when there are less tourists and lots of snow.
What I love about Rome is the history that you see and feel. Standing in the colosseum and waking through ancient Roman battlefields gave me goosebumps imagining what went down on those grounds years ago. I’m talkin’ lions, tigers and bears..oh, my! Not to mention, St. Peter’s Basilica – pictures will never do it justice. Inside and out contains beautiful artwork and architecture that will have you captivated for hours.
Also, when you get to Rome and walk down the Spanish Steps, make your way to San Crispino – Roma’s #1 spot to eat gelati! After you cool down with a scoop or two, make a wish at the Trevi Fountain!
In Florence, there are so many cool little alley ways and curb side dining experiences to be had. One of them being Note Di Vino. Eat here for delicious apps, bread, cheese, wine and good people watching! Along the Arno River is great for shopping and where you can have the most amazing dessert – fresh waffles with gelato!
If you can, take a drive through the sunflower fields to the Tuscan Countryside for wine tasting.
