Amsterdam is one of my all-time favorite cities in Europe. The first stop we had in the Netherlands was at a gas station outside of Amsterdam – in the countryside. I immediately fell in love when their gas station had a market and cafe serving up fresh produce, gourmet pastries, cooked to order seafood and meat.
Things I did:
- Visited the Heineken Brewery
- Ate a moonpie and laughed my ass off
- Went on a river cruise with bottomless wine and saw of Anne Frank’s house and the church she went to. As well as the Amstel Hotel (10 million a night) and all of the adorable buildings and homes
- Attended a live sex show in the Red Light District
Unfortunately, since I’m writing these entires so long after the trips, I don’t remember a lot of what I ate. But I do have this one picture of a cone with fresh hot fries in it and a creamy sauce drizzled on top. That’s one thing I will remember to eat when I go back!
Edam
This is a quaint, small town located North of Amsterdam . The town was built upon a river dam where all of their goods shipped in. A river runs through the neighborhood lined with droopy willow trees and old boats. Definitely a lovely place to retire.
We took a bike tour through Edam and ended the day visiting a Cheese + Clog business where I ate a Stroopwafel for the first time. Yum!
